"Conflict resolution in the modern world is a complex activity informed by the pressures of real violent conflict on the one hand, and ideological and theoretical views of how conflicts come into being, persist, and come to an end on the other. In recent years growing attention has been given to Traditional Conflict Resolution (TCR) - for our purposes, violent conflict resolution without the organs of the state - which features in many intra-state conflicts.
In our view, TCR is able to function within particular contexts which imply both utility and constraints as "models for" general conflict resolution. The overall objective of this workshop is to identify these contexts, advantages, and limitations. The workshop is one element of a field-based project comparing various forms of TCR and learning from them."
