"The ICM (Intercultural Conflict Management) journal is proposed to be a scholarly and professional journal that will feature articles written by students/scholars, researchers and practitioners in the area of conflict and intercultural work" says Chinta Musundi.
To learn more, read the following text that Chinta wrote me in an e-mail on Feb 13th:
"In respond to your email, I have thought it necessary to explain the
foreseen credibility of the proposed journal, whose standards will be in
coherence with other scholarly journals. Likewise, I will also discuss why
I think an ICM journal is an asset to the institution, conflict
professionals and most importantly to the ICM alumni.
Your Canadian friend raised the issue of attraction of established
scholars to our proposed journal. On this note, the ICM journal is
proposed to be a scholarly and professional journal that will feature
articles written by students/scholars, researchers and practitioners in
the area of conflict and intercultural work. And the same, peer groups of
researchers, scholars/students, professionals and practitioners within the
intercultural work and conflict field will be the prospective audience
for our scholarly literature.
As already initiated, we are going to have an Editorial Board. Prof Nowak
and some of his colleagues have already acknowledged our invitation of
being editorial and advisory board members. We are still seeking more. If
you know any, please entreat them too.
Normally, articles in some scholarly and professional journals are either
peer-reviewed or are selected by an editorial board. In our case, we chose
the latter, though this decision is not absolute. Standards of scholarship
in such journals are often equal or comparable to those of peer-reviewed
publications, although this is not always the case. If the question of
credibility arises, like you already have, which is unlikely, then we can
opt for peer review, which is a well-accepted indicator of quality
scholarship. Nonetheless, I have confidence in our Editorial board which
will comprises a number of recognized researchers and professionals in the
field, thus they will have the capacity to evaluate a manuscript and
recommend its publication, revision, or rejection.
Moreover, the editorial and advisory board will help the editors in making
decisions about which manuscripts are suitable for our journal, thereby
helping editors and authors in their efforts to improve the quality of
reporting and manuscript publication. Furthermore, an independent
editorial advisory board will be useful in helping the editors establish
and maintain editorial policy. So far, we already have a small team of
editors that includes Leila, myself and others yet to come on board. Just
for your information, editors will be responsible for its entire content
and publication and our common endeavour will be the publication of a
reliable and readable journal, produced with due respect for the stated
aims of the journal.
Last but not least, I would like to reinstate the value of our prospective
journal. We envision that our journal articles are probably an extremely
valuable source of information, which I believe the ICM alumni and other
conflict specialists should not be denied a chance to access. I have
confidence that it will attract scholars because our editorial board will
be made of established and esteemed academicians and researchers."
